FAQ's

Is getting pierced safe?

At our Piercing Studio, absolutely. We take great pride in cleanliness & safety for both YOU, the client, and for our piercing staff. We adhere to strict protocols to avoid any & all cross-contamination and we provide new, sterile, disposable needles for every client. You will witness the piercing needles opened in front of you prior to your service, as well as their disposal into a regulated sharps container immediately upon completion of your piercing to ensure they are never used again.

What if I touch my piercings?

They itch, swell, turn red, develop lumps and ma become infected.

Solution: NEVER touch your piercings- even once healed. See a medical professional for infections

What if I knock or snag my piercing?

Your piercing may develop a lump, jewellery may become loose, your ear may swell and embed your jewellery. Solution: Be careful when getting dressed, washing hair or any situation where you could bump your ear. If something of concern occurs, check your jewellery, manage swelling, and adhere to aftercare. See a medical professional for embedded jewellery.

Do I need to turn my earrings while they’re healing?

No. There is the opinion still held by some that if you do not rotate your jewelry occasionally during healing that your skin will adhere to or “grow into” the post. This is not true. With implant-grade titanium and steel jewelry (and even glass) the surface is non-porous and will not adhere to skin. This is not to say that you won’t have some scabbing and dried lymph that adheres to your jewelry during healing. Just keep with your regular cleaning regimen and this will wash away naturally. As for twisting the jewelry: just leave it alone. If you’re not cleaning your piercing, keep your hands off it.

How soon can I leave the piercing empty?

For most, earlobe piercings tend to stay open (even without jewelry) after a year or more (but this is no hard, fast rule), while cartilage piercings can take considerably longer. A good rule of thumb: if you want to keep your piercing, keep something in it.

How soon can I change my jewelry?

The initial jewelry should be left in for the duration of the healing period, but you can change your jewelry as soon as it is healed. For earlobes, this means six to eight weeks; for cartilage, six to twelve months, minimum.

Is it better to get ear piercing with a needle?

Needles give better results for ear piercings because they are precise and clean. This means the healing time is shorter and typically they hurt less than other methods. All the equipment used at Vanity for your piercing is single-use and comes in sterile packaging and your chosen jewellery will be sterilised before being inserted.

What do I do if I am concerned about my piercing?
After piercing, it is normal for the area to feel hot and maybe a little sore. If you have any swelling, redness or find the piercing painful after 24 hours, please seek medical advice immediately without removing your ear piercing.
